New Advertiser Instructions

Step by Step Instructions to Create an Ad and User Account

NOTE: These basic instructions are for those who have never used a pay-per-click system. We'll get your ad up and running and then we"ll then come back and learn some details so you can begin to tweak your campaign for better results.

Before you proceed:  This network is moderated and all ads must be suitable for viewing in an Independent Baptist environment. Advertised items are NOT limited to items of faith.  Anything may be advertised (shoes, pencils, a web site, a personal blog, a service, etc. ) as long as it does not conflict with our Baptist beliefs. If you have questions you email the moderator.

We suggest printing these instructions for easy reference. Alternately you may keep this window open for reference as you create your ad and account.

Click HERE (Page will open in new window) to get ready to create your account and ad.

Step 1: Create Your Ad

1. "Name Your Campaign" - This name is used on the system to identify your ad campaign.  It is not shown as any part of your ad.

2. "Headline" - Enter the headline of your ad.

3. "Description Line 1" - Enter line one of your ad. Do not use all cap letters or rows of attention getters such as ****** or ++++++.  If these are used your ad will not be approved.

4. "Description Line 2" - Enter line two of your ad. Remember, these two lines of text are key to the ads success.  The text you enter will determine how well your ad is responded to.   Each word can make a difference.

5. "Display URL" - This is the text you want displayed as the url. It should be the url of the destination page or the url of your site. You cannot use the line as additional advertising.

6. "Destination URL" - Enter CAREFULLY as this is the actual url the system will use when someone clicks on your ad.

7. When all information is entered and correct click "continue."

(Note: The system will allow you to "go back" as you go through screens. Nothing is final until the last step. You may also edit and make changes to your ad at any time, even after it begins running.)

Step 2. Content Channels and Keywords

1. "Channels"

Read "About Channels" below then Select the channel(s) you want your ad to appear in. Because the Ad Nework is new, we highly recommend selecting, at least, the General Channel.  You may also choose other channels if appropriate. If your ad is not appropriate for a channel the site moderator will "de-select" that channel and allow your ad to run in the proper channel(s).

Important: Please Read
- It's to your benefit to understand channels.

About Channels - Channels are used to help place your ad in front of the appropriate audience.  When a Publisher places ads on their site, they select the channel they wish to show. (If they choose, they may place more than one channel on a page.) For both Publisher and Advertiser it is important that the ads shown on a given page match the interests of the people who are viewing that page.  A man viewing a site which contains Bible study material isn't very likely to click on an ad that relates to ladies.

Because The Think Bible Ad Network is moderated and targeted to a specific audience, the whole network is already a "channel" of like-minded people.  Thus, you may think of the whole network as being the "General Channel" and we highly suggest using it, especially during rollout when the user base is very small.  This will get your ad in front of the widest possible audience. As we grow and the clicks increase you will might want to use some of the more targeted channels.

It is important to remember that, most likely, the more specific the channel, the more targeted (and smaller) the audience will be.  For example, an ad in the "Ladies" channel will appear a lot less than an ad in the "General" channel. However, the "Ladies" channel may be preferred as the ad will be reaching a highly targeted audience and those who view the ad are much more likely to actually visit the advertised site (assuming the "Ladies" channel is appearing on a ladies related page.)

In general, if you want the most ad impressions and have a larger budget, select the widest channel (or ALL channels). If you want to receive the best value for your advertising dollar then use the more specific channels.

As the network grows more channels will be added.  We'd like to hear from you if you have an idea for a new channel.  Email us at: ads@thinkbible.org

2. "Keywords and Phrases"

Enter the keywords and phrases for your ad. Important! - Users of Google AdWords: This is different than your AdWords Keywords! You are not using "search term" keywords. You are using "keywords" to match your ad with the CONTENT of the HOST page! Your keywords should be words found on the type of pages you want your ad to appear on. To get good placement you will probably need more keywords and keywords that are more general. Read next paragraph!

Your keywords are very important as to how and when your ads will be displayed so please read the following:

About Keywords - Keywords give you control on where/when your ads will be placed. When a web site owner publishes ads on his/her page our system will attempt to match currently available ads to the content of the page. In order to do this, you must supply keywords.  These are words, which, when they appear on the "host" page", will allow your ad to appear on that page.  If you specify "KJV" as a keyword and the "host" page has "KJV" on it, your ad will be a candidate to go on that page. (Other factors are involved, such as how much you bid to place your ad.)

If you have a limited budget and/or you want to display your ad only to a "select" audience, use very specific and limited keywords.  If you want to "broaden" your advertising, use many "general" keywords. Note that the system allows you to use phrases also. You can also specify broad matches or specific matches.

We have some initial keyword suggestions for you on the next page. Our system has a reporting feature that will tell you how each keyword is performing and the costs and clicks associated with each one.  We'll cover that later.

Keyword Suggestions

independent - fundamental - baptist - church - kjv - king - james - bible - scripture - pastor

• For wide placement of your ad try the words above. Each word should be single and on a separate line.  The more keywords you use the more ad impressions you'll get.  Note: The goal is not to get your ad on every available page.  Your goal is to get your ad in front of a targeted audience at the cheapest possible price. We'll have more on this later.

• Optionally, you can visit the type of sites you'd like your ad to appear on and look them over for keyword ideas. If you can find a less popular but recurring word or phrase that no one else is using as a keyword, then you have a very good chance of having your ad displayed on similar network sites with little or no competition.

Step 3: Set Costs & Budget

1. Maximum CPC - This is the maximum Cost Per Click you are willing to pay to have your ad shown.  Our network is new and competition is low so you can probably get results with bids of one or two cents.  Our system uses a proxy-bidding system which means that the system automatically uses the lowest possible bid amount to save you money. (ie: If you bid five cents and every other ad for that keyword is being placed for two cents, your ad will be placed number one at three cents a click.)

2. Daily Budget - Enter a maximum daily budget. This is a "safty net" to make sure your entire budget isn't spent too quickly.  If this amount is reached the system will stop showing your ad for that day.  (As you learn how to use reports and keywords effectively, you will also learn how to control the placement and appearance of your ads, and thus, your costs.)

Step 4: Revew Your Selections

1. Check Your Selections - A summary of your selections is presented. Verify your choices.  Use the [edit] link next to the item if you need to change anything.

Step 5: Create Account

1. Login Information - Enter a Username (3-15 characters) and password (5-15 characters. You must use at least one number.)  Enter the password a second time to confirm it.

2. Contact Information - Fill in the fields. Title and Company are optional.

Step 6: Fund Account

1. Enter your Payment Information - This payment is not for individual ads.  It is to fund your account. If you place additional ads, they will be funded out of this account. (You can, of course, create separate accounts and each account can have it's own funding.) You can add more funds to your account at any time.  You'll receive a "low funding" notice when your account gets low.

2. Enter Billing Information

Note: You may use the Automatic Funding feature but recommend that you DO NOT. We prefer that you manually add funds to your account. If you do choose use Automatic Funding the amount you specify will be automatically charged to your credit card and added to your advertiser each time your account get's to a preset "low funding" amount.

3.Finalize your funding and you're done.

Once your payment is complete and your account is funded you are done. You may log out and leave the system.

4.Wait for your ad to be approved.

Your ad will be reviewed by the staff of the TBA Network. If appropriate, you will be notified be email when your ad is approved.  Once approved it should enter the active ad rotation within ten minutes.

5.Learn how to monitor your ad and evaluate it use.

Next, we'll learn some more details so you can begin to tweak your campaign for better results.
